A part of a story
Words are all that is. If there is not a word for something people will find a way to give it one. This is done so we can tell others of this thing. We tell stories. It is one of the things that really defines being human. Everyone does it. Some are better than others. How should we build stories to give the image or understanding we desire? This is a big topic. Story telling is more than just heroes and monsters. It is life. Telling someone of that one crazy thing you saw is telling a story. How do you tell the story so that it has the same impact upon others as it did upon you? You might see that others brush off things when you felt you delivered properly. Sometimes you will see that you were telling some side story and people will attach to it vehemently. This happens to me a lot. Time you spent thinking of delivery matters. Whether it is written or spoken matters. Timing in speaking matters. Voice matters. All things that go into you telling someone about anything matters.
The best question is ‘Where do I start?’
The best answer is ‘Anywhere’.
This is not always true. If you have a goal, an image of what the story builds to then you are limiting your approaches. This is a good thing. There are so many places to begin, a writer or speaker might feel that they are overwhelmed. The task becomes infinitely easier once the first thing is placed. All things after are made in relation. If you begin with a man, a plethora of questions arise. What is his name? Height? Ethnicity? Age? All the questions and answers that could ever be are yours. Where is the road map? You are the road map. Don’t have direction? That doesn’t mean you don’t know where you are going. From posts on this page I will begin to talk about how each time you wish something told, there are a number of paths that unfold. I will give some insight into making these avenues of writing and speaking more bold.
